Culinary Adventures In Provence
To be in Provence is to be surrounded by vineyards, hilltop villages, markets and olive groves. We love the food, the wine, the sky, the rosemary-scented breeze, the cypress growing wild, the country roads rambling through acres of vineyards, and the scattering of ancient fortresses. We love the celebration of life, food and wine.
As you can tell, it’s one of our favourite places in the world and we love to share all our secret locations, favourite wineries and restaurants. A week goes by too quickly!
Our Provence
The word Provence describes a large area of southern France. Our Provence, however, is much smaller. Draw a circle around the Dentelles de Montmirail with the village of Beaumes-de-Venise to the south and Vaison-la-Romaine to the north. Then add another large circle with Vaison in the south, Les Pilles in the northeast, and Grignan in the northwest. These may just be names on a map to many people, but to us these circles represent Our Provence: olive groves, wineries, mediaeval villages, abandoned chateaux, winding roads, spectacular views.
Wine Villages
Seguret, Vacqueryas, Gigondas – the hilltop villages of Provence are beautiful and, luckily for us, they also produce some of the best wines in the world. We explore the villages and discover Côtes-du-Rhône wines, how they’re made, and meet the people who make them.
Cooking Classes
You’ll learn how to make regional Provencal dishes, focusing on local ingredients from the market. The hands-on classes are led by local, Provencal chefs, who join us for dinner and select regional wines to accent the meal.
Tasting & Terroir
Our area of Provence, the Voconces, is famous for grapes, olives, fruits and the products made from them. We visit wineries, olive oil mills, lavender fields, and in season, a truffle grower. You’ll savour local tapenades, fresh goat cheese, and enjoy a picnic in the vineyards.
Village Markets
Since the 12th century, the towns and villages of Provence have held huge weekly markets, where the entire village gathers to shop for produce, cheese, meat, breads, olive oil, and Provençal linens and soaps. We visit our favourite local markets to gather the ingredients for our cooking classes. Of course, there’s plenty of free time to shop!
Accommodations
Settle into your luxurious room at a Provencal villa surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, and with a stunning view of the Dentelles de Montmirail. All rooms are spacious with plenty of privacy, and there’s a swimming pool for lounging. All rooms include ensuite baths.
